Women’s Empowerment Summit

So, I promoted it for weeks, maybe months. The date has come and gone but the gems and nuggets shared, will last for a long time. August 6th was a full day, including an 8:30am client. Here’s how it all went down.

Plans change…

With most clients that I book, I try to keep being mommy and being a businesswoman separate, but a lot of times they come together. Plans changed the day prior to the summit so my son came along for the ride and I booked a makeup client. I received a referral from one of my Bennett sisters who had a friend, who a friend that needed makeup for her videoshoot with Moneytrain and Anthony Hamilton. In order to have her on time for her video shoot and to give me a cushion for traveling, we left Greensboro a little after 6am. Luckily we did because we ran into construction on the way to Charlotte.

Let’s get started…

Tam was ready to get makeup started once we arrived (yes, I gave her a heads up that my son would be accompanying me). We talked, we sang, my son played video games (she has a son about the same age so she knows how things go), we enhanced the natural beauty and did a quick little photo shoot. Tam is a beautiful person, inside and out. Once I got cleaned up and packed, it was time to head to the summit.

Moneytrain feat. Anthony Hamilton ”Down” video coming soon

SIDE NOTE: Ya girl was awake but I knew my sleepiness would set in soon. After all, I did go see Barn Dinner Theatre’s ”Soul Sistas” with the Drunk Talk Live crew on Friday night, but I’m a night owl so I figured I could make it through. We had an amazing time and the cast was phenomenal!

Alright now back to this summit.

We arrived a bit early, which gave me time to touch up my makeup and change clothes. So imagine this, my makeup kit is in my back seat so I’m taking out what I need so I don’t look like I need to go lay down somewhere. I’m going from the front to the back seat for about 20 minutes. Sitting, standing, sitting, standing, and fighting the heat while looking for the rain as well. Alright, face is on, then I had to change my shirt and shoes. Now I’m sure most ladies know how to do this without the goods hanging out; from having to do and assist with quick changes in public, you become a pro.

Time to begin…

The Women’s Empowerment Summit was amazing. I was one of the first to speak. This is a little bit of a different stage for me but truly honored to be in the presence of some amazing women that all had something to offer, and so many connections were made.

From knowing your worth, to knowing your value, to speaking up, to always making time for self care, to retiring yourself, to investing, to taking chances on yourself… there were so many gems.

And guess what? My day still wasn’t over! Bryson and I stopped by one of my best friend’s house to see their house and catch up with her and her family. We made it back to Greensboro around 11pm, so it was indeed a jam packed day and we were ready for sleep.

This week’s episode of Through the Eyes of NiSi: The Podcast, we speak to the amazing Theresa Flatts. I met Ms. Theresa through the ‘Curvy Doc,’ Ms. Janelle Simmons (click HERE to learn more about the Curvy Doc).

You never know who you will cross on your journey that may be an integral part of your path. By meeting Ms. Theresa and having genuine conversation, we got to talking about our purpose, our passion and here we are today with her putting the final touches on her event, “The Ageless Woman Women’s Empowerment Summit” with me providing spoken word for the event. The organization, The Ageless Woman has a primary purpose to educate, empower, mentor, share, and help build confidence by teaching women the 3Ps of Empowerment passion, power, and purpose.

I have many conversations with my sister, Tina. If you’ve been with me for a while, you know that we are like twins, ten years apart. Through our relationship; I have learned what things I may experience in my body, in my health, in relationships, etc. So by attending this women’s empowerment summit, it’s like having all of your sister’s, young and old, pour into you. By hearing these women’s stories and their journeys, take some of these gems and reflect.

As women, we hold so much in. We don’t let our voices be heard enough about what we’re going through on a daily basis. We put our big girl panties on and keep pushing through (and sometimes while being in pain mentally and/or physically). By attending this event, don’t just stop there; stay connected, don’t let the business cards you get, just sit in a wallet. Follow up and stay connected, that person could be your bridge to your next opportunity.

Let your Voice be Heard Podcast: Coming Soon

As most of you know, one of our own Queens, Ms. Cheslie Kryst died by suicide earlier this year. There was so much anxiety around her crossing the threshold into her 30s and what that meant for her career. She wrote an article in Allure magazine last year speaking candidly about her journey to her 30s. From watching to the Red Table Talk show with Cheslie’s family, one thing I gathered is to be kind to everyone because you don’t know what they’re dealing with behind closed doors. People can smile in your face and life can look amazing on social media, but until that person lets you into their world and their thoughts; you have no idea what is going on.

Through the Eyes of NiSi: Episode 30 (A New Start)

We’re back and we’re now streaming through Anchor/ Spotify. I’ve received some questions about how to hear the show so we’ll use the blog to answer some of the questions.

  1. Will the show air on Wednesdays at 10am? No, you don’t have to listen at 10am weekly, however, new shows will be uploaded on or before Wednesday morning. This makes it easy to find, and means you’ll be notified when new episodes are released.
  2. How can I hear the show? Currently, you can only listen via the Spotify and Anchor app.
  3. Do I have to have Spotify or Anchor app to listen to the podcast? Yes, you can go to Spotify webpage, or use the app. Most of my shows will include music, so you will have to add the Spotify or Anchor app to your phone. You’ll get a snippet of the music if you only have a free Spotify account. Spotify is free for listeners. Anyone with a free Spotify account can listen to podcasts. However, you’ll need a Premium account to download podcasts for offline listening, just like with songs and albums. If my show has music in it (most of them will), you will only hear 30 seconds unless you have a premium account.
  4. How can I follow? Click the Follow button next to the title of the show. If you’ve followed it correctly, the button should change to Following. You’ll be notified when a new episode is uploaded. To see your Spotify-followed podcasts, go to Your Library > Podcasts.
  5. Why can’t I hear the whole songs on the show? You’ll need a premium account to hear the full song.
  6. Do I have to listen at a specific time? No
  7. How can I find out what song was played on the show? When you select the episode, it gives you a track listing, the songs played during the show are displayed. By clicking the 3 dots to the right of the song, you can: Like, Add to playlist, Add to Queue, Share, Go to Radio, View album, View Artist, and Song Credits.

I’m enjoying the freedom to talk longer. You get to hear from me directly rather than me squeezing what I can into 15 minutes and typing the rest in a blog. Please feel free to let me know what topics you want me to get into and be sure you’re doll me so you don’t miss it. Also let me know what streaming service you normally listen to podcasts from, I’ll see what I can make happen (but for now, Spotify and Anchor).

Through the Eyes of NiSi: Episode 29- “Is that the End?”

We started in November, now we here! Yes, we made it 8 months yall! We almost made it a year but we’ve experienced some amazing things in these 8 months.

Press PLAY to listen to the 7.6.22 show

When I began this show last November, I was so nervous. I was like what have I said yes to? However, I said yes to myself; new opportunities, new people, new connections, new music, new levels and so much more.

What drew me to this opportunity was the fact that I could be myself, talk about the things that were important to me and share my world. I did that, and in doing so, I grew in other areas. Feel free to go back and listen to past shows, I know I can hear the growth and it continues as we start the new podcast, “Through the Eyes of NiSi: The Podcast.”

So this is what’s in store for you: more than 15 minutes of me, more interviews and conversations, live podcasts via my YouTube channel; you’ll not only be able to hear me but see me do my thing. Help a sista out, if there are some topics or things you want to learn more about from me; please leave it in the comments OR click HERE and leave a message.

Thanks again to everyone who has been apart of this journey, especially my family, friends, Coach Gunz, WDRBMEDIA, guests, the engineers, etc.

I don’t know how I found this voice, but once I did; I sought her out. Alex Isley’s smooth, pitch perfect sound is what drew me in. Although, closely related to the Isley Brothers; her vocals stand their own ground.

Alexandra Isley is an American singer-songwriter and producer. She released her debut EP The Love/Art Memoirs in 2012. She already has a catalog of great music and has been featured with some amazing artists such as Tank and the Bangas, Moonchild, Masego, Robert Glasper, and so many more. As I mentioned, she is the daughter of Ernie Isley; I truly believe her music is timeless and she definitely had staying power.

Below you’ll find some of her music that are my favorite songs, tour information and breaking news about what’s next for NiSi. I hope you continue to rock with me, there’s some amazing things coming up and I’d love for you to be on this journey with me. Now lets get to the music!
