Uncomfortability is Non-Negotiable

Sometimes God puts you in uncomfortable places to push you to move or make changes. As I grow older, my uncomfortability is non-negotiable. So maybe you need that push to do what’s best for you too.

Click above to listen to the newest episode and/or all episodes.

This blog may rub some people the wrong way and for that I apologize, however, hopefully by the end of listening to the podcast and reading the blog, you’ll get a better understanding of why looking out for my well being is non-negotiable.

Dana Chanel

As a woman, as an entrepreneur; I am constantly learning that I have to be assertive, speak my mind and be solid. This is in regards to business and personal relationships. Some people think just because you’re not getting cursed out, or my neck isn’t rolling, that I’m okay with certain situations. When in actuality, I am trying to keep my peace, my sanity and not come off as the angry black woman. My poetry and my art are my self expression and therapy for me. Oddly enough, doing this podcast and writing this blog gives me the opportunity to vent and sometimes just hear myself out loud. So when my clients receive emails and contracts from me, I have put my all into making sure that neither one of us are stressed, and that neither of us is uncomfortable. I love my clients, we get to know each other really well and sometimes that can be too a fault. However, please understand that NiSi’s Eyes is still a business and will be structured accordingly. So as I continue to gain knowledge, experience life, receive lessons, achieve victories, and sometimes be uncomfortable; things have to shift.

My uncomfortability is non-negotiable!

I may lose some clients, my circle of friends may get smaller but it is just about as big as a mustard seed already, but I have to make sure I’m good in all situations that I allow myself to be in. I’ve tolerated things for too long and I am the one that feels some kind of way at the end of the day, and in most cases it’s because there was miscommunication or something was lost in translation.

James Fortune

God knows what I can handle, and I have been put in some positions that could’ve broken some people. There were times that I felt that I’d break as well. I’ve been in positions where I didn’t know how rent was going to be paid, in positions where I was taken advantage of, someone breaking in my car within minutes of me coming back to my car with my child. God has put me in some uncomfortable positions because he knows I probably won’t move due to being content. So in being content, I don’t feel like I am using my gifts or growing as I should and being a vessel for others. So, that tells me it’s time to move. So in relationships, business and personal, I have to state what I require! If by me having requirements doesn’t work with you or your finances, I may not be the right person for you. Thank you for thinking of me… maybe next time or next lifetime.

There have been times where I haven’t spoken up because I was worried about how someone would feel or how they would take the information. However, that puts me in a position where I am the one stressed out and the other person/people may not have any idea that they are stressing me out and making me uncomfortable. Lately, I have been speaking out more on life lessons. Coming up as the baby of the family and a preacher’s kid, I haven’t spoken out about my life experiences because I knew my parents would hear it and it may affect them in a certain way. There’s a lot of poetry that I haven’t put out publicly because it’s my truth and in some cases, it’s erotic poetry so I keep those things out of the public eye as much. I am 40 years old and a lot of times still feel like I’m still a little girl. It is an uncomfortable fight that I have with myself on a regular.

As I am growing personally as a woman and in relationships, it allows me to grow in business as well.

Here’s what’s changing for me to be comfortable in my business and personal life:

-Yonitry Part 2 & 3 will be out by the end of the year and more of my life will be revealed

-I will walk more, drink more water and figure out my migraine triggers

-Out of town/overnight bookings (which means you have signed a contract and put a deposit in) will now include the fees to cover my hotel room for the duration of travel

-Relationships/ Situationships require 2 people, I will not be the one doing the most reaching and that same energy not be returned

-All Bridal/Pageant appointments will require a 30 min or less video chat to make sure we’re on the same page and review contract

-I will push myself to be involved in more opportunities to share my art (poetry and visual)

-I am releasing a poetry/vocal album by the end of the year along with my first book

-I will continue to be available to communicate and help my clients the best way I can so that they continually feel comfortably flawless.

Through the Eyes of NiSi: Episode 29- “Is that the End?”

We started in November, now we here! Yes, we made it 8 months yall! We almost made it a year but we’ve experienced some amazing things in these 8 months.

Press PLAY to listen to the 7.6.22 show

When I began this show last November, I was so nervous. I was like what have I said yes to? However, I said yes to myself; new opportunities, new people, new connections, new music, new levels and so much more.

What drew me to this opportunity was the fact that I could be myself, talk about the things that were important to me and share my world. I did that, and in doing so, I grew in other areas. Feel free to go back and listen to past shows, I know I can hear the growth and it continues as we start the new podcast, “Through the Eyes of NiSi: The Podcast.”

So this is what’s in store for you: more than 15 minutes of me, more interviews and conversations, live podcasts via my YouTube channel; you’ll not only be able to hear me but see me do my thing. Help a sista out, if there are some topics or things you want to learn more about from me; please leave it in the comments OR click HERE and leave a message.

Thanks again to everyone who has been apart of this journey, especially my family, friends, Coach Gunz, WDRBMEDIA, guests, the engineers, etc.

Press PLAY for the 6.22.22 replay

Wouldn’t you enjoy getting your makeup done in the comfort of your own home? Most of my clients like the ability to continue getting ready once they have received beauty services, instead of having to drive across town and get back home…. they can just continue getting ready for their special occasion (or in some cases, I assist them until they walk out the door).

So let’s talk about travel fees and hospitality fees. When you book a vendor, in most cases, they have to travel to you and get back home or to their office. Think of what all goes into operating a vehicle; gas, maintenance, oil changes, tune ups, insurance, tire rotation, car payments, etc.; all of these things have to be considered when one travels to clients. Travel fees mainly cover gas, however if we travel for a living, we have more than the normal wear and tear on our vehicle. So when you you see a travel fee on your invoice, and you’re only 15 mins away; remember if I didn’t have a car, I wouldn’t be able to get to you at all.

Hospitality Fees, for me are incurred when I need to stay overnight due to having to arrive early or due to leaving late. It is also is incurred when I’m traveling over a period of time; meals may be included in the hospitality fees. For some vendors, you may not see a travel/hospitality fee because you have received a blanket amount due. Personally, I don’t do that because the blanket wouldn’t be fair to me if you are further away or your cost will be too much if you’re closer to me. I have to put me first and be at my very best to provide you with services. If I have been up since 6am and I am leaving your reception at 8pm, I deserve a room, lol. Because of how I service my brides and are there with them from the morning til the time they’re shaking a tail feather at the reception, making sure they’re picture ready; I need to rest before I drive back home if I need to travel a ways to get to you.

Through the Eyes of NiSi: Episode 26-Bridal FAQ (what you may not think to ask)

Listen to 6.15.22 show

Bridal Makeup… in most cases, its a beautiful experience. In other cases, it is stressful. In all cases; with all the planning, and all the spending, by the time the wedding day comes, everyone is just ready for the production to just be done and start living life as husband and wife or wife and wife. I’ve seen all sides!

A wedding takes a lot of planning and communication, it is indeed a production; one of the biggest days of your life. With all that goes into planning, tensions can be high and stress and anxiety may set in… but what happens when you’ve made all the deposits and/or paid in full and you have to ask, “What happens if I have to cancel the wedding?”

Breathe. I know (in most cases), it took a lot to come to this question. There are some Brides that are quick to shut things down; but make sure you have really thought it all through, EVERYTHING! This is a big decision; make sure you are happy with the decision (even if its a tough one or a no brainer)!

So here’s some tips to consider if you’re considering calling off the wedding when it comes to your vendors (or if you want to be sure to know these answers before you enter into legally binding agreements).

During the planning:

  1. Ask what the policies are if you have to cancel? Remember, all weddings aren’t cancelled because of relationship issues. Many weddings had to be cancelled due to the pandemic, family emergencies arise, etc. Make sure you know what options you have before signing a contract. Can date be transferred? Are payments non-refundable? Also, ask what the policies are if the vendor needs to cancel?
  2. Make sure that you are sure that you want to go through with the wedding. Life happens. Is this the person that you will be with, for the very best best, and the very absolute worst.

After you’ve signed contracts and paid deposits (or paid in full):

Most times your options are slim to none. Depending on how long you have been planning, most vendors have been holding your date for 6 months or more. For NiSi’s Eyes and many others, we are blocking people left and right because you are locked in.

So when it comes to NiSi’s Eyes and any other vendor, READ YOUR CONTRACT! In some cases, vendors will try to work with you (more so on the side of rescheduling and/or transferring services to another date). NiSi’s tries to work with you but there are no refunds. However, keep this in mind: we have held this date, we have booked additional staff, we may have paid for flights and/or hotel accommodations, bought products/tools specific to your wedding and whomever is involved, and the list goes on. Should you cancel your wedding festivities, the blow back hits us as well. As much as we love what we do in providing a service, we also have to consider how your cancellation will affect our business… because at the end of the day, IT IS A BUSINESS!

Considering booking NiSi’s Eyes for your wedding festivities? Here’s my semi-detailed process:

  1. Complete bridal questionnaire
  2. Review the proposal that you receive via email
  3. Schedule your Girl Chat (video consultation)
  4. Once we’ve talked and gone over next steps, you’ll receive an email to schedule your bridal beauty preview and submit payment for your appointment (usually within 1-6 months of the wedding date).
  5. Once you’ve done your bridal beauty preview, you’ll receive a questionnaire so you feel comfortable providing feedback.
  6. If you enjoyed your experience, let me know on the questionnaire and I’ll forward the contract to you. At that time, the signed contract and 50% of total balance is due along with your headcount for those receiving services. Once that happens, you are locked in on my calendar.
  7. Communcaition continues throughout the process. Because I know things happen, a final headcount is due 60 days prior to the wedding. Each artist is designated a certain number of services.  If an additional artist is necessary, you must meet the minimum, per artist.  You are welcome to add services to your contract or if you don’t have the people, you can pay the difference to reach that minimum on your invoice. I reach out to your bridal squad 45 days prior to the wedding to discuss skincare concerns/ allergies.
  8. Final payment is due 2 weeks prior to your wedding. NO EXCEPTIONS!
  9. We show up for wedding day and help you feel comfortably flawless.
  10. A week or so, after your wedding; we’ll email you for feedback. A month after you’ve been married, we’ll touch base to receive access to your comfortably flawless memories, your photos.
